In Comic Book Stores Now

Available now in a comic book store near you is SCOOBY-DOO #138. I have a story in it, though I couldn't tell you what it is, or how long it is. For some reason my comp copies of Scooby-Doo have not been coming to me. I still haven't seen the last issue either.

If I'm able to provide a content update, I will.

Happy Birthday, Uncle Forry!

I am particularly happy to celebrate Forrest J Ackerman's birthday this year, since just a few weeks ago it didn't look as if he'd still be with us when he reached his 92nd birthday. Forry has successfully recovered from pneumonia and a renal infection, but is still weak in body. In spirit, he's apparerently his usual jovial self.

Without this great man, I would not be the person I am today. This means that he's the person to throw stones at for those of you who wish I'd turned out otherwise. He's the person who introduced me, and thousands of others, to not only the classic horror films, but the people behind them, who showed me how amazing collecting things could be, and taught me the importance of passing on our heritage to the next generation.

Thanks, Forry for being such a generous human being (if that's really what you are). You deserve to live in perfect health forever, and in my mind, you always will.

Here's one of my tributes to Forry from issue #4 of MIDNIGHT, MASS. with art by Jesus Saiz and Jimmy Palmiotti with colors by Kevin Somers and lettering by John Costanza.

Amazing Simulacrum

Like the elusive bigfoot, or Loch Ness monster, the french fry shaped like the larval form of Mothra refused to be photographed in focus, but here it is, followed by the real deal.

Sadly, before I could throw this up on ebay along with the slices of toast which allegedly look like Jesus or Che Guevera, my dog came along and ate it.

Do Not Microwave

I'd meant to post this a while back, but mislaid the image files that went with it. Over school vacations last year, and over the summer, "Killer" the harmless corn snake that lives in my daughter's former third grade classroom, came to stay with us. As it turns out, killer was a pretty social and snuggly snake who was little more than a foot long when we first brought him home, and about twice that when we returned him in September. How did he get to be so big? Well, silly we had to feed him, of course. Since live mice were out of the question as far as my wife and kids were concerned (we also have one of the classroom mice specifically bred for this purpose, but rescued by my daughter, living with us) we resorted to prepackaged already deceased mice which can be found in the frozen food section of your local pet supply store.

My favorite aspect of the frozen gourmet mouse are the directions on the back of the package. In addition to the provocative "Do not microwave" is the restrictive "not for human consumption," in case anyone might be tempted. Once, when the cashier asked me if I wanted a bag, I told her it wasn't necessary, i was just going to eat it in the car. Did she point out that I wasn't supposed to? No. The Gourmet Rodent is available in other varieties, and in multipacks.

The Horrors of My Children

I tend to think of my kids as winners 365 days a year, but they also won the cool THOIA Halloween Costume Murderathon Contest . Head over to THE place to read pre-code horror comics and see them pitted in a mortal deathlock in the banner all this week.

With Halloween now over and El Dia De Los Muertos beginning, I thought it was appropraite to post this image. This is a collage I created called "The Changing of the Guard" for the upcoming show at the Gallery at East Atlanta Tattoo. If you live in the Atlanta area stop in and check it out.
