31 Days of Halloween - Day 18

Today's collage portrait is Ro-Man from ROBOT MONSTER (1953) played by George Barrows with John Brown providing Ro-Man's voice. I have no idea who designed this cool looking monster, though it was probably less designed than cobbled together with what was at hand.

Great portrait of Ro-Man!

The monster wasn't exactly designed at all so you're right about the cobbled together theory.

As the story goes, the movie budget didn't allow them to create the robot suit as intended so director Phil Tucker had George Barrows bring in his own gorilla suit (which he owned since he played gorillas in quite a few movies and tv shows), then they stuck a space helmet on him instead of the gorilla head and thus Ro-Man was born!

Good old Ro-Man! It seems like everyone has a soft spot for Ro.

I like Ro-Man the monster, but find sitting through "Robot Monster" the movie to be excruciating.
