Who is you're favorite actor who has portrayed Batman?
ReplyDeleteI'd almost say Adam West since he was the Batman that I raced home to watch after school every day when I was a kid, but the truth is that my favorite actor as Batman is Kevin Conroy who provided the voice of Batman in Batman - The Animated Series. The reason I choose him is that his voice is what I hear in my head when I read Batman comics which makes him Batman to me.

1. What hero would you like to work on that you have not before and why?
2.Do you feel batman is getting Over Rated? I ask this because despite Batman being (arguably) the most popular superhero currently, Whenever you ask someone who would win in a fight between Anyone and Batman. They will always say batman. The same people that say batman will always win because "He is batman and he always has a plan" Or just "He is batman" Dislike superman because "Superman always wins" Its kinda like a double standard in a way, What do you think?
Also cant blame me for my curiosity but find/hear anything on the Milestone/DC situation?

ReplyDelete1. The two heroes I would like to work on are The Fantastic Four and Kamandi.
Kamandi because it was my favorite series (besides Turok: Son of Stone) as a kid, and I think it's still relevant and could easily be updated to appeal to today's audience. I've even jotted down a lot of notes for such an update and unsuccessfully pitched it to DC.
The Fantastic Four because I'd like to tackle a series that explains weird phenomena and characters from an entirely scientific perspective. I also love the characters and the villains and think this is a perfect group to use to tackle big ideas.
2. I don't think Batman is overrated. I think when it comes down to it he's probably the best superhero creation going with an impressive rogues gallery all of which feel like they belong together in their world of Gotham City. I think Batman has shown that he lends himself well to a variety of interpretations over his career.
I don't think Batman could beat anyone in a fight. There's plenty of characters who could kill Batman before he even reached his utility belt. I think the whole notion of "who would win" kind of boring to be honest. I'd be more interested in who could win in a three-legged race, or college bowl, or a round of Stratego to be honest.
Superman gets a bad rap because as the superhero with all the ideals, he's less relatable, and doesn't allow room for complex emotional expoloration while remaining true to what the character stands for. His roster of opponents is a lot less interesting and difficult to build upon. I liked Superman a lot more when he really was super.
I have no interest in the forthcoming Batman vs Superman movie, as I had no interest in the grim and gritty Man of Steel. True Superman and the current movie Batman don't belong in the same universe, and I really can't see them expanding that franchise into a Justice League that will work.
As for Milestone. Nothing new that I know of, though I've not really looked into it. Right now I'm focusing my energies into other directions including creator owned projects. I'll always be avaialble for Xombi though.
Hey John, me and my friend were talking about our own superheros trying to make some up for a roleplaying game and that sparked an interesting discussion and i think it would be interesting to see your take on it. What do you think it "takes" to make a superhero/super villian stand apart from the others or even just successful?
ReplyDeleteLike for instance do you need an interesting backstory/background as to why they became a hero/villian or is it forgiving to have something similiar (like the orphan background)as long as the powers are good, etc, etc.
Basically in a nutshell, what do you think it takes for heroes in general to become big/popular/successful?
