THE ABYSS #6 is Now Free to Read

The culmination of the Red King saga is now available to read for free at Interpop Comics. This storyline greatly expanded the supporting cast of The Abyss, revealed a great deal of the mythology behind his group of Acolytes, gave some hints into the Abyss's origins, and provided a key villain, and former ally, in the form of the Red King, while also establishing alliances, betrayals, and suggestions of what's to come. A lot of work went into this book, not just from myself, but from my talented collaborators, Cliff Richards, Chris Sotomayor, Carlos Mangual, Rylen Sigman, and Rachel Gluckstern, and I think it shows. You can read the entire saga of the Abyss, thus far, for free. That includes all six issues of the ongoing series, plus the four 8-page stories starring the Abyss which appeared in Emergents Presents. Give them a read and let me know your thoughts on them.

THE ABYSS #6 is Now Available

I was away all of last week with really spotty internet so I did not get to post this. The Abyss #6, which brings the Red King saga to its epic climax with more guest heroes and villains than you can shake a stick at,is now available at Interpop Comics. This issue was created by the usual crew of myself, Cliff Richards, Chris Sotomayor, Carlos Mangual, Rachel Gluckstern and Rylen Sigman. It features wall to wall action and a number of revelations. You can also read the first part of it for free here. If you need to catch up, issues 1-5 are also available under Free to Read, a are the initial 4 8-page The Abyss stories from Emergents Presents. At some point in the next couple of months I will probably put up a post of my process on putting together The Abyss up through the end of this arc. Voting Results

At Interpop Comics, the purchase of The Abyss #3 allowed readers to participate in two topics to vote on which determine the direction of future issues of the series. One topic, "Are Humans Altruistic?" is running until midnight, August 31. You can vote here. The other question was which of four characters from The Abyss (shown above) should get their own solo story in an upcoming issue of Emergents Presents. Here's how the voting went.

Near Miss is a thief who was featured in The Abyss #2 (still available here for FREE) who cannot be touched. No matter how carefully you aim, you cannot hit hit her. You'll come really close, but you won't make any contact with her. We only scratched the surface of her character in The Abyss, but now that she'll be getting her own 8-page story in Emergents Presents we'll get to see what really makes her tick. As for the other characters, they all have important roles to play in the current storyline, which will run through issue #6, and make periodic apearances in issues of The Abyss further down the road. The Votes Are In

One of the interesting aspects of writing for Interpop Comics is the voting system they have which allows readers to steer the course of the stories being told, sort of like a Choose Your Own Adventure book. It makes it a bit tough to plot ahead for us writers, and often has us sterring stories in directions we hadn't anticipated, but does give the fans a participatory role in the comics they are supporting. The recent round of voting that pertains to the currnt storyline in The Abyss has concluded, and here are the results.

The Red King storyline begins in the current issue, The Abyss #2, which is available for purchase here. The first third of the issue is also available to read for free. The Abyss #2 Coming June 29

The Abyss #2 will be available on June 29 at Interpop Comics. In the meantime, you can catch up by reading the four 8-page stories starring the Abyss, from Emergents Presents, here and The Abyss #1 (divided into three parts) here, all for FREE.

The Abyss #1 Available for Free

While you are waiting for the 2nd issue of The Abyss to arrive at the end of the month, you can now read the first issue for free. It is divided into three parts, so you'll need to download each. You can also find all four 8-page stories for Emergents Presents, also for free, if you want to catch up completely.

The Abyss #1 - Free to Read and Second Variant Cover Now Available

The first two-thirds of The Abyss #1 are now free to read at Interpop Comics. The issue in it's entirety will be available to read for free next Wednesday. You can also read all 4 of the 8-page stories starring the Abyss here. Issue #2 goes on sale on June 29. There is also a variant edition of The Abyss #1 feauring the stunning cover by Jason Masters as seen above. You can purchase that here. The Abyss - Updates

The latest round of voting has ended, and the readers have determined that the member of the Abyss's old team, the Genesis Squadron, he will reunite with will be Moxie. Moxie appeared briefly in the fourth 8-page The Abyss story, "The Assassin" which appeared in Emergents Presents #7 (which you can read here), and will now be appearing in issue #3 of the regular ongoing The Abyss series, an issue I am currently writing. Emergents Presents #7 Now Available

The Abyss appears in his fourth story in Emergents Presents #7 now available at Interpop Comics, where you can also find his previous three adventures. This will be the final 8-page story starring the Abyss before he is spun off into his own full length ongoing series this Summer. As usual I wrote it, Cliff Richards provided the outstanding art, Chris Sotomayor provided the gorgeous color, Carlos Mangual provided the stellar lettering and Rachel Gluckstern, assisted by Rylen Sygman, kept us all in our places.

Announcing THE ABYSS ongoing series

This past weekend at SXSW, InterPop Comics gave away this free The Abyss issue #0, which contains the first three 8 page stories starring the Abyss from Emergents Presents and cover art by the amazing Juan Doe. Those who received it were also given the opportunity on which of three featured villains will return in THE ABYSS #1. That's right, the Abyss has proven to be popular enough that he's receiving his own ongoing series with the same creative team that's been driving the 8 page stories. Myself, artist Cliff Richards, colorist Chris Sotomayor, letterer Carlos Mangual, editor Rachel Gluckstern and assistnat editor Rylen Sigman will be bringing the Abyss to a new monthly series of 24 page adventures beginning this Summer. Stay tuned for more details to come. In the meantime the Abyss will return to the pages of Emergents Presents with a new 8-page story very soon. The Abyss, Story 3, Is Now Available For Free

The third story starring THE ABYSS, from Emergents Presents #5 is now available to read for free at InterpopComics. While you are there, check out some of the other comics available. In this story the Abyss reveals some new abilities, faces a new villain, and interacts with a guest star. A fourth story starring the Abyss is on the way.

The story features a new villain; The Jockey, and a guest starring appearance by the Southside Sentry and continues to expand the world and mystery of the Abyss. I'm creatively invested in this character and already have so many stories I'd like to tell about him, his allies, and his developing roster of a rogues gallery. I had a great time writing that first story. I love the villains. Even as I was writing it I was formulating ideas for future appearances of the Abyss.
