31 Days of Halloween - Day 25 - Movie 2

A man wakes up with complete memory loss and the possibility that he's a murderer. While trying to unravel the mystery of who he is, he is also trying to figure out why the city he's in seems to have some identity problems of its own, locations that can't be reached, and no day time. There's also the matter of these strange, bald, cadaverous men who are not only after him, but seem to be the key to both mysteries.

Dark City (1998) is more of a science fiction mystery than a horror film, but it does have enough elements to make it an appropriate viewing choice for the Halloween season. I can't really say what any of those things are without giving anything away. This is a movie best watched with as little knowledge of what it's about going into it. I enjoyed it far more when I saw it in the theater when it opened back in 1998, than I did watching it again for the first time since, tonight. This isn't to say that I don't recommend this movie. It's beautiful to look at, and the characters, by necessity, aren't richly drawn, they are brought to life by a solid cast. The story is also interesting, though I wish it didn't climax in a big explosive battle, which was far less interesting than anything leading up to it.
