31 Days of Halloween - Day 14 - Movie 2

A group of high school girls head off together for Summer vacation where they will stay with one of the girls' aunt in her remote house out in the country. Once there, they begin to disappear one by one before learning the awful truth about the aunt and her house.

House (1977) is not going to be everyone's cup of tea. Long before any of the supernatural shenanigans  begin, the movie is very strange and highly stylized. There are lots of unusual editing choices, purposefully artificial backgrounds, unconventional narrative techniques, and wonky humor and musical interludes. Even the names of the girls are less like names and more like descriptive traits, like watching a typical 80s slasher films where characters actually call each other slut, jock, stoner, good girl, fat kid, etc. The entire movie uses artifice as its primary style component. Fortunately this is something I really dig (this is the 3rd time I've seen this movie), and it that seems to be up your alley you should really love this unique horror movie. If not, you'll probably be turned off by it long before the girls ever reach the house. Once there, things really get weird.
