31 Days of Halloween - Day 23 - Movie 3

A group of gamers obsessed with an online game based on the Hellraiser mythos, called Hellworld,  are invited to a private Hellworld party at an isolated mansion where everything isn't what it seems.

Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005) is also based on material that has nothing to do with Hellraiser. I give it credit for going outside the box with it's self-referential storyline, but the execution of the idea is just lame. The party turns out to be another stereotyped debauchery of beautiful and fake trendy looking young people. The gamers are one dimensional stereotypical cyphers, the traps they face are dull, and Pinhead, in his brief appearances is reduced to being just another slasher. The setting though is pretty nice, a big labyrinthine mansion, with oddities throughout including a basement room full of things in jars. The movie also has Lance Henriksen in it as the host of the party, though he's not given much to do besides act menacing and sleazy. This movie could actually have been pretty good if some effort had been put into it, especially at the script level. As it is though it's just dreck.

What I've learned is that for all these years that I'd never ventured past Hellbound: Hellraiser II, I was better off just keeping it that way.
