31 Days of Halloween - Day 15 - Movie 1

Leonardo DiCaprio plays a U.S. Marshall sent to Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of one of the inmates at the hospital for the criminally insane located on the island. His investigation uncovers impossibilities, cryptic notes, uncooperative staff, and the possibility of a conspiracy involving human experiments which may be drawing him into its net. A hurricane and migraines accompanied by troubling dreams and visions complicates his investigation until he uncovers a even more troubling truth, or is it?

Martin Scorcese's Shutter Island (2010) is a beautifully made, complex movie which draws its influences from a number of genres and sources, primarily film noir, horror, and psychological thrillers. It has a great soundtrack and terrific performances and is mesmerizing to watch, even when the solution to at least half of the puzzle presents itself pretty early on for the observant viewer. As riveting as it is, it's not a fully satisfying film. It's far from Scorcese's best film, but is worth watching even though it falls a bit short.
